TUSCALOOSA, Ala., Nov. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Trucker Buddy International is pleased to announce that PeopleNet has agreed to renew its sponsorship of the School Supply Program for 2017 which was a big success in 2016 with Trucker Buddy classrooms receiving grants totaling $9,500 to help our teachers purchase supplies and equipment.
In January 2016, nineteen classrooms were selected to each receive $500 in grants for supplies, equipment and educational materials. Items purchased were tablets, books, paper and pencils and one class combined proceeds to purchase a white projection board. Classrooms will be selected based on need and items used to help their students excel. Both teachers and drivers can apply for the grants.
“PeopleNet is proud to continue to support the Trucker Buddy program,” said Brian McLaughlin, President of PeopleNet. “Not only does this initiative provide classroom supplies to schools across the country but it also gives students an opportunity to learn more about the trucking industry through correspondence with professional drivers.”
“Trucker Buddy and all our members are so grateful for the continued support from PeopleNet, said Randy Schwartzenburg, Executive Director. School funding for basic items like the ones needed by the classrooms is not available unless someone like PeopleNet steps in to help our teachers and schools.”
Trucker Buddy International
Trucker Buddy International, an independent, non-profit 501(c) (3) organization, often called the number one trucking image campaign in North America, helps educate schoolchildren and introduces educators to the trucking industry. This gives them the world through the eyes of a professional truck driver. The Trucker Buddy program helps to educate and mentor schoolchildren via a pen pal relationship between professional truck drivers and Grades K-8 students supervised by their teachers.
After an extensive screening process, the professional truck drivers are matched with a class and are directed by a teacher. Drivers share news about their travels with their assigned class while students write letters and send pictures to their classroom driver. Students’ skills in reading, writing, geography, mathematics, social studies and history are enhanced and learning is made fun.
Since 1992, Trucker Buddy International has helped educate over a million schoolchildren and introduced them to caring, compassionate men and women, professional truck drivers. The on-going success of the program is due to driver volunteers, participating teachers and the contributions of sponsors. There is no cost to the drivers or teachers to participate in the program. The Trucker Buddy program is funded entirely by sponsorships and donations. If you would like to make a donation, click here.
